Not all fun and games

Okay, well most of it has been fun and games, but it's also been quite a bit of work figuring stuff out. This is the manual for the RV and all the components:

We've had some problems figuring out the inverter and a couple of things are just bad and don't work at all.

We left Oceano last Friday and I drove us out of the RV park and then from Ventura to Malibu down PCH!  Rusty is right that it's easy to drive on the freeway, PCH was a bit challenging. It took me a while to figure out the curves because you sit over the front tires. But once I did the only challenge was taking care of people getting in and out of cars and pedestrians.

Friday was the wedding rehearsal and then the wedding was on Saturday so we were quite busy all weekend. Sunday we cleaned the RV from top to bottom inside.  I can't believe how quickly we were done. We got the built in vacuum and I feel really stupid because who needs a frickin' broom when you've got the vacu-suck device of the century. I think it took us all of 30-40 minutes. On Monday morning we got up early because we had an appointment at the dealer to get the RV looked at. They were able to fix a couple of things but our XM antennae and mutli-vision camera system are definitely busted. We could have had them order parts and wait to get it fixed a couple of days but we were not looking forward to staying in a hotel and since we were going to do a factory tour of the facility where our RV was built we decided to wait to have those things that are broken fixed when we hit Red Bay, Alabama in October.

The other thing we're struggling with is the tow dolly. We may end up getting a car we can tow wheels down soon, but we're waiting until we're in South Carolina to decide about that. It's not that towing it is hard, but having to hook it up requires you crawl under the car. Not the most pleasant of tasks especially when the temperature is soaring.

We've been in the Glen Ivy RV Park in Corona since then. The best thing about this RV park is it's a half mile from the Glen Ivy hot springs, which we definitely have been enjoying.  Tomorrow we start our eastern trek. Friday night we'll stay in Las Vegas, but only one night. We're prepared to leave the car hooked up and just hang out at the RV park for the night so we can try and get out of the heat as quickly as possible.

I'm still loving this life, but I do have to admit to feeling a bit technically challenged when it comes to some of the problems we've run into. Of course, none of the problems are impossible to figure out, I just miss my free tech support at UCLA!

P.S. Rusty says we need to start including pictures of the RV at our camp sites so I'll start working on that - you aren't missing much at the one we're in right now though. Monthly fees start at $495 so there are a LOT of full timers here and it's mostly hot and dry. And they don't recycle - what's up with that????

Wrong Way LA - Wondering Around LACMA

Posters around Miracle Mile advertised that Chagall was at LACMA through January 7th using this image: The exhibit was for  Chagall's music and dance designs . Thanks to a wonderful Christmas gift of a museum membership I was able to go with a couple of friends. Before we hit the Chagall exhibit though for some strange reason I wanted to check out this painting: It's a painting entitled "The Magdalen with the Smoking Flame" by Georges de la Tour. For some reason this painting fascinated me. We stood in front of it and stared for quite some time. It was interesting how we each interpreted the masterpiece. There were so many nuances that it took quite a bit of time to really get the feeling of it. We all observed the fact that it looks like she's pregnant, and were fascinated by tracing the rope around her waste to the blocks on the floor - drowning herself, perhaps? But the weirdest thing was the way The Magdalen looks almost doll-like in the painting. ...

The Other World of Breath Work

Rebecca, the queen of the breath (you can check her out at the  TheBreathZone.com ), always starts her class by reminding you what can happen both physically and mentally when you do breathwork. She’s talked about people having an out of body experience. I would love to go there on a breathwork journey but I’ve never been able to leave my body. I have had one instance where my body and I were moved to follow a different path. I think it was only my 2nd or 3rd time doing breathwork and either my 1st or 2nd time with Rebecca. It took me a long time to do breathwork properly so I’m not sure how it happened. Laying next to me on the floor was a guy breathing. Only I don’t think he was doing it properly - especially since I’ve never heard anyone ever do it again. To me, it sounded like he was moaning sexually, almost panting. It started to irritate me and I took a deep breath and told myself that I needed to train my mind to ignore all outside influences so back to breathwork I went. A...

RV Parks

Well, Rusty and I have been to a lot of RV parks in the last few months (we're back in Malibu as of this afternoon - we don't have as good as a spot as we got last time, but it's okay). Most of parks we've stayed at have been KOA. These typically all have the same things and you kind of know what to expect. The other parks we've stayed at have been Good Sam. Same thing with these, they have their "signature" amenities as well. Then there have been some total one offs - like Pecan Valley RV Park that I loved. Last night we stayed in a Thousand Trails campground in Indio. We've been in one of these before when we went with Sharon and Peter up to Yosemite. I can tell you that the one near Yosemite was about 1,000 times nicer than the one in Indio that we stayed in last night. It was definitely an older park. Mostly sand spots, with a cement or asphalt pad to park your car and a picnic table. The campground was right off the I10 so all Rusty and I wanted...
