Delivery Day

The house slowly empties out...

SO here we are and Mike Thompson finally calls and says "COME GET IT!"on Friday June 16.

FIRST LOOK:

We arrived just a bit early and they were still cleaning it... ANYWAY we're really excited but also a little trepidatious and we had to go to the bank before coming here and take out a cashier's check since that's how you pay for one a these things. Plus, I am a bit nervous about driving it home in rush hour Friday afternoon 405 traffic so I didn't sleep too well the night before. I'm thinking I might just park it out front and take a nap until about 3 am and then drive it home. But the minute I see it I'm like we're taking this thing home RIGHT NOW.

SO we hang around the office for a while since the "New Owner Orientation" guy isn't quite ready for us. There's a small box of stuff they have for us which includes a catalog of about 1000 pages of RV stuff so we peruse that while we wait, then all of a sudden he's ready!

He takes us around the exterior first, pointing out the electrical and the propane and the sewer and like that, I snap a few photos.

Then it's time to go inside, for some reason I completely forget to take a picture oh well...they really should set aside a couple days for this process, after awhile it's just overwhelming, there's so much to take in and the guy does so many of these things and every RV is like slightly different so there's a lot of stuff he has to figure out as we go along and pretty soon we're both exhausted and we're like ok let's get this over with and then we go inside and have to sign and sign and sign (even though we're aren't using any financing) and the guy tries to sell us an extended warranty (it's like you pay SO MUCH sand then they're like by the way you haven't paid enough because the whole thing is going to fall apart and you better buy a warranty on top of the warranty that comes with it like WTF???) and when did extended warranties become a thing anyway? I think it's a scam and 95% of the internet agrees with me. Which means it probably isn't a scam because we all know how S M R T the internet is...ANYWAY we finally get out of there and I start driving it up the 405 with Julie right behind me the whole way and I begin to realize it's not that hard to drive in rush hour you never go over about 45mph and no one wants any part of you anyway so they all stay the hell away with the exception of every time someone pulls in front of me they tap their brakes for no reason so I soon realize I better keep a WHOPPING distance between me and the next car...

Now we pull into the neighborhood and my plan is to park it in the street right in front of the house, our freinds Peter and Sharon and Miya have come down for one final weekend, they were going to the Broad museum so we don't expect them to be there but Peter has opted out and he's there ot greet us when we pull up. As it turns out there's no way to park it in from of the house without causing an accident, in fact as we're figuring it out a UPS truck comes barreling around the corner whil one of the local Indy 500 drivers is speeding up the hill and it almost ends badly. We finally figure out how to park it in front of the neighbor's house which has been empty for 2 years:
Peter and I drive up the street and make sure it's all good, which it is but it's still 10 days before leaving day so I get nervous about and find a storage facility in Torrance (space 428) to park it at for the week, as it turns out we should have just left it where it was for the week but, I overthunk it and moved it to Torrance:
There's like a foot maybe on either side, thanks to Peter for guiding me or I'd likely a never got it in there...I had to spin the wheel like 30 or 40 times, here's the marks on the driveway:
HA! Anyway the RV has finally arrived and the stage is set for

Ever Wonder

How those huge pine trees grow on the steep cliff walls?  I know I have, but we found out in Glenwood Canyon: As you can clearly see from this hidden camera photo, the mountain regurgitates the trees onto the cliff walls. Inquiring minds want to know... xoxxo Julie

Cars

I have owned and/or driven more than 40 cars in my life (and at least 10 motorcycles and maybe 15 or 20 bicycles but that’s another story). I started with the family station wagon, a 69 Dodge Polara with facing rear seats that my dad sold me for $400. Then one morning after an all night party I loaned it to some idiot I had just met and he went out and got it t-boned (wait who was the idiot here?). I drove it for a while after that but it was seriously compromised. I sold it to a junk yard for $25.   69 Dodge Polara (stock photo) My mom gave me her car, it was a 76 golden-brown Plymouth Fury coupe, I was fond of it because it was the first car I owned with an ass-kicking stereo. It always ran rough though and one day it just conked out and I left it at the side of the road. I intended to tow it home but the cops got there first and I never could afford to get it out of the impound. My dad then sold me his 72 Buick LeSabre, again for $400. I drove that f...

This was the view I woke up to this morning:
