Did Someone Lose Their Marbles?

Okay, are you all wondering what the tourist thing that Rusty and I found to do in Kansas? Did you look at a map? Do some internet research? Are you just dying to know what I think would be a fun tourist thing to do in Kansas?

Well, here it is:

It's the Moon Marble Company in Bonner Springs, Kansas. They make marbles by hand here! It is the coolest store I've ever seen. So many classic toys and so many marbles! They have various marble artists, each with their own style and trade. This guy was doing a demo showing how they make marbles:

The store is in a very small town right next to the railroad tracks. When I say right next to, I mean that you park right next to the tracks. The place was packed. Mostly full of families with kids. The entire store fascinated me. It's about 3,000 sq ft with every single inch covered with something. Rusty and I bought some marbles (including one that glows in the dark with the Moon Marble logo, a book on how to shoot marbles, a TMNT mug, RIP expandable flyswatter, post cards - one with a picture of the guy who checked us out, and some cherry cola Mike & Ike's).

I wish I would have gotten a better picture of the store itself but it probably wouldn't have done it justice.

If you're ever on the I70 in Kansas, I highly recommend a side trip to the Moon Marble Company! I guarantee you will find something you don't need there.

  1. I took Austin's marbles to Achille and Augie and Kurt taught them to shoot.
How far from Denver is it? They're renting a car and driving to the wedding.

    1. I think it would be about a three hour side trip, but that would include the time in the store. It's off the I70, almost to the Missouri border. They should DEFINITELY stop there!

The Five Words You've All Been Wondering if I'll Say

It happened the morning we were getting ready to leave Glenwood Canyon.  It had been an emotional week. We were doing all the things we did with my dad. Even Rusty got misty eyed at one of my dad's favorite restaurants. But the thing that I stupidly didn't realize was that we were there on my dad's birthday. He would have been 85. That hit me pretty hard but I guess I didn't realize it until we were getting ready to leave. Don't get me wrong, I love Glenwood Canyon. It's one of the most amazing places and it's no surprise why my dad loved living there. Between all the emotions and the fact that I woke up the morning we were leaving to a tweaked back, I think it was just too much. Rusty had gotten up to prep the sewer and, water and electrical outside and I was working on prepping the inside. Making the bed is a contortionist's nightmare without a tweaked back to say the least but I got it made. Then I start to notice blood on the floor. I figure the dog...

Meet Me in St. Louis

Okay, that title is a bit misleading since we're no longer in St. Louis, but this blog post is about our trip to Missouri. We parked the RV in Granite City, Illinois at a KOA campground. The campground was away from the freeway so we didn't have any traffic noise keeping us up, and the pool there was salt water so that was awesome, but the campground itself was like the name of the city. White rock and dust and not much to do in the general vicinity. It was, however, very close to the arch, which both Rusty and I wanted to see. It turns out that Rusty had seen it as a little kid. They didn't go up it so that was our plan. I somehow got us lost on the way to the arch but for those of you who follow me on Facebook you know I was really excited that I did because we got to go across this bridge: We were in the Fiat so it wasn't as cool as being in the RV but the bridge itself was way more exciting than the typical bridges we've been driving over, like this one...
