Traveling

Well it's been 7 weeks now, and I'm still struggling with the transition. One thing I didn't realize but should have, we are essentially living outside, even with all the comforts of this amazing home when the storm hits, it hits hard...we got nailed by hail in Golden, and then an EPIC thunderstorm last night in Goodland Kansas. It's going to take some getting used to, especially for Whisky...

We have a pretty strict policy of never driving more than 250 miles in a day, and strive for 200, but we will have to break tradition when we drive from Kansas City to St. Louis on Wednesday, it's just over 300 miles. We average 45 mph so that's, um, about 7 hours or so...the idea is to get off the road before any weather hits, also to take advantage of the L Shaped Sofa in the RV to get in a good afternoon nap...

At any rate I think we may have tried to do too much right off the bat. Our plan right now is to winter for 3 months in Palm Springs starting mid November and then take it WAY slower next summer, but this summer we're already committed to the East Coast so we're not slowing down any time soon...

I70 in Kansas headed East on a Sunday morning...

BUT all in all I've got no complaints...it's a grand adventure and I'm lucky to be on it with Julie and Whisky. Julie's the B E S T ! Here's us in Salina Kansas.

The Five Words You've All Been Wondering if I'll Say

It happened the morning we were getting ready to leave Glenwood Canyon.  It had been an emotional week. We were doing all the things we did with my dad. Even Rusty got misty eyed at one of my dad's favorite restaurants. But the thing that I stupidly didn't realize was that we were there on my dad's birthday. He would have been 85. That hit me pretty hard but I guess I didn't realize it until we were getting ready to leave. Don't get me wrong, I love Glenwood Canyon. It's one of the most amazing places and it's no surprise why my dad loved living there. Between all the emotions and the fact that I woke up the morning we were leaving to a tweaked back, I think it was just too much. Rusty had gotten up to prep the sewer and, water and electrical outside and I was working on prepping the inside. Making the bed is a contortionist's nightmare without a tweaked back to say the least but I got it made. Then I start to notice blood on the floor. I figure the dog...

Zmudowski State Beach

Otherwise known as our slice of heaven.

This morning's walk

brought about an unusual sight. A white pickup with a shell pulls up next to a white van rear end to rear end. Then the guy gets out of the truck and puts on something that looks like a disposable hazmat suit. The van is full of crates and he starts loading his truck with the crates. I was afraid to look but Rusty did. He said the crates had dead chickens in them. When the truck was loaded, he took off the suit and drove south. The van drove over to the north bound onramp and was sitting just waiting. Some things just can't be explained....
