Did Someone Lose Their Marbles?

Okay, are you all wondering what the tourist thing that Rusty and I found to do in Kansas? Did you look at a map? Do some internet research? Are you just dying to know what I think would be a fun tourist thing to do in Kansas? Well, here it is: It's the Moon Marble Company in Bonner Springs, Kansas. They make marbles by hand here! It is the coolest store I've ever seen. So many classic toys and so many marbles! They have various marble artists, each with their own style and trade. This guy was doing a demo showing how they make marbles: The store is in a very small town right next to the railroad tracks. When I say right next to, I mean that you park right next to the tracks. The place was packed. Mostly full of families with kids. The entire store fascinated me. It's about 3,000 sq ft with every single inch covered with something. Rusty and I bought some marbles (including one that glows in the dark with the Moon Marble logo, a book on how to shoot marb...

The Five Words You've All Been Wondering if I'll Say

It happened the morning we were getting ready to leave Glenwood Canyon.  It had been an emotional week. We were doing all the things we did with my dad. Even Rusty got misty eyed at one of my dad's favorite restaurants. But the thing that I stupidly didn't realize was that we were there on my dad's birthday. He would have been 85. That hit me pretty hard but I guess I didn't realize it until we were getting ready to leave. Don't get me wrong, I love Glenwood Canyon. It's one of the most amazing places and it's no surprise why my dad loved living there. Between all the emotions and the fact that I woke up the morning we were leaving to a tweaked back, I think it was just too much. Rusty had gotten up to prep the sewer and, water and electrical outside and I was working on prepping the inside. Making the bed is a contortionist's nightmare without a tweaked back to say the least but I got it made. Then I start to notice blood on the floor. I figure the dog...

Traveling

Well it's been 7 weeks now, and I'm still struggling with the transition. One thing I didn't realize but should have, we are essentially living outside, even with all the comforts of this amazing home when the storm hits, it hits hard...we got nailed by hail in Golden, and then an EPIC thunderstorm last night in Goodland Kansas. It's going to take some getting used to, especially for Whisky... We have a pretty strict policy of never driving more than 250 miles in a day, and strive for 200, but we will have to break tradition when we drive from Kansas City to St. Louis on Wednesday, it's just over 300 miles. We average 45 mph so that's, um, about 7 hours or so...the idea is to get off the road before any weather hits, also to take advantage of the L Shaped Sofa in the RV to get in a good afternoon nap... At any rate I think we may have tried to do too much right off the bat. Our plan right now is to winter for 3 months in Palm Springs starting mid November an...

Ever Wonder

How those huge pine trees grow on the steep cliff walls?  I know I have, but we found out in Glenwood Canyon: As you can clearly see from this hidden camera photo, the mountain regurgitates the trees onto the cliff walls. Inquiring minds want to know... xoxxo Julie

Good Morning

This was the view I woke up to this morning:

Last Day in the Canyon

We took our last walk in the canyon this morning. We'll do the hot springs once more this afternoon and we're thinking about doing the zip line across the Colorado river. Tomorrow we head to Golden, Colorado so that Rusty can take care of some more things with his dad's estate in Denver and we meet up with some friends and family. I can't believe how wonderful it's been here. We've seen the bald eagle again, hawks, beaver, mountain goats and big horn sheep. We've seen bear scat, but this morning we saw a sure sign of bear: While we didn't actually see bear, we did see the big horn sheep we saw the other morning. It's three young males. They seem to be hanging out in this part of the canyon. It's was funny how we saw them the other morning. We were sitting on this rock bench watching the river when we kept hearing rocks move behind us on the cliff. We kept looking behind us and didn't see anything, finally we looked way up the hill (onl...

P.S.

This is by far my favorite camping spot - right next to the Colorado River. Trains coming by occasionally; cool, quiet nights and beautiful Glenwood Canyon nestling us in: Peace! xoxo me
