Now That's More Like It...

We left Waco for San Antonio. We were going to be there five days but left after three. It wasn't a bad campground for being in the middle of an industrial area within the city but it was just too hot to enjoy doing anything outdoors. We spent one afternoon at Riverwalk, but didn't have the energy or desire to do anything else. We drove by the Alamo and just as quickly forgot it (see what I did there?). I stumbled upon this RV park about 140 miles west of San Antonio by using the Park Advisor app so we decided to leave San Antonio early and continue west. Our destination - Pecan Valley RV Park in Junction, Texas. It was absolutely amazing. An RV park next to the Llano River in a pecan grove. In the evening and early morning huge herds of deer make their way through the park. The night sky was so dark and clear the milky way was visible. And the best part, sketchy at best, network and cell service.

Rusty and I had two full relaxing days doing nothing but shelling and eating pecans, sitting by the river and watching the deer and the stars at night. We were the only ones in the park on Sunday afternoon/early evening so it was like having the world to ourselves. Absolutely heaven!

Sunday Afternoon - Derf Under the Pecan Trees

The Evening Deer Arrival!

Coming Towards Us!

I got up on Sunday night about midnight and the deer were all around the RV - some of them just laying on the ground right next to our door. We were told that axis deer are running the native white tailed deer out of Texas so they feed these white tailed deer to keep the population up.

The other cool part was the pecan grove. We picked up a bag full and are still cracking them. In case you're wondering, here's all the stages of a pecan:

We were parked right under an old pecan tree and when a brief storm came up you should have heard it raining pecans! It sure did make it easy to pick up more of them.

Tonight we're in Fort Stockton, Texas. The park is nice, but bigger than the one in Pecan Valley. We're only here for the night. At least it's cool here - no AC needed!

xoxo

The Five Words You've All Been Wondering if I'll Say

It happened the morning we were getting ready to leave Glenwood Canyon.  It had been an emotional week. We were doing all the things we did with my dad. Even Rusty got misty eyed at one of my dad's favorite restaurants. But the thing that I stupidly didn't realize was that we were there on my dad's birthday. He would have been 85. That hit me pretty hard but I guess I didn't realize it until we were getting ready to leave. Don't get me wrong, I love Glenwood Canyon. It's one of the most amazing places and it's no surprise why my dad loved living there. Between all the emotions and the fact that I woke up the morning we were leaving to a tweaked back, I think it was just too much. Rusty had gotten up to prep the sewer and, water and electrical outside and I was working on prepping the inside. Making the bed is a contortionist's nightmare without a tweaked back to say the least but I got it made. Then I start to notice blood on the floor. I figure the dog...

Meet Me in St. Louis

Okay, that title is a bit misleading since we're no longer in St. Louis, but this blog post is about our trip to Missouri. We parked the RV in Granite City, Illinois at a KOA campground. The campground was away from the freeway so we didn't have any traffic noise keeping us up, and the pool there was salt water so that was awesome, but the campground itself was like the name of the city. White rock and dust and not much to do in the general vicinity. It was, however, very close to the arch, which both Rusty and I wanted to see. It turns out that Rusty had seen it as a little kid. They didn't go up it so that was our plan. I somehow got us lost on the way to the arch but for those of you who follow me on Facebook you know I was really excited that I did because we got to go across this bridge: We were in the Fiat so it wasn't as cool as being in the RV but the bridge itself was way more exciting than the typical bridges we've been driving over, like this one...
