Midnight at the Oasis

send your camel to bed...

Miss us? We kind of disappeared once we hit Pecan Valley, didn't we? We left Pecan Valley and headed for Fort Stockton, Texas. It was a nice RV park but the best part was the weather. It was so cool we were so happy and relaxed. We were just there for an evening though before we headed out for the El Paso KOA. The campground wasn't actually in El Paso, it was outside of the city in Anthony, Texas just on the New Mexican border located behind a Camping World. The campground was just an asphalt parking lot with full hookups. We ended up staying there for two days because it was nice and cool and the place we were to go next we started reading some reviews about it online and it sounded kind of creepy. Instead we opted to spend a long day driving all the way to Tucson, Arizona.

Our drive has been pretty uneventful, except I kind of freaked out seeing these signs along the I10 in New Mexico:

Luckily there were no dust storms and we now know what to do in the event we're caught in one. Pull off the road, turn off your headlights, keep your foot off the brakes and your seat belt on. Then just wait for it to pass.

The park we stayed at in Tucson was awesome because we were able to get a covered spot:

The roof is comprised of solar panels so it also serves another purpose - generating electricity. They also have all kinds of citrus trees planted so I grabbed as many ripe lemons I could find and froze the juice. Unfortunately the oranges and limes weren't quite ripe. We did hit the grocery store in Tucson and also found some amazing Mexican food - Leo's Mexican Food. Not sure how we accidentally stumbled on this place but so happy we did. The food was amazing, everything homemade and Leo himself was funny and really cared about his business. I had their special green corn tamales. We spent a day cleaning the outside and inside of the RV and we also took advantage of the pool. It was a pretty relaxing time.

Our last night there this thing pulls in:

It was too big to fit in the spot - 65' so I was kind of surprised when they let them park it there, but it was fun to watch them. The back part was a bedroom but there was also a bedroom in the front. I saw at least four different people, three guys and a girl. They played a video of nature photographs on the TV outside until about 1am so we figured it was some kind of nature photo shoot thing.  The plates showed it was from North Dakota.

From Tucson we traveled to Brenda, Arizona. Just east of Quartzsite and the California border. We've been in a nice RV park a few miles off the I10 for the last couple of days. Although it's been hot during the day, the evenings are cool with a million stars all around. It gives me a peaceful, easy feeling.

Tomorrow we get up and head for Indio. We're going to be there for one night. Dropping off the dolly in storage and the car at the shop. From there onto the Malibu RV Park for the next couple of weeks for doctors and dentists appointments. After that we have a really cool snowbird plan for the winter, but you'll have to wait to find out what that is...

Ever Wonder

How those huge pine trees grow on the steep cliff walls?  I know I have, but we found out in Glenwood Canyon: As you can clearly see from this hidden camera photo, the mountain regurgitates the trees onto the cliff walls. Inquiring minds want to know... xoxxo Julie
